A Heartfelt Letter from Jack Steele, Plus a Special Announcement
At Eczema Support Australia, we are constantly inspired by the compassion and generosity of our community. Today, we are excited to share a moving letter from Jack Steele, one-half of the famous Australian comedy duo, The Inspired Unemployed. Jack has opened up about his personal journey with eczema, reflecting on the toll it took not just on him, but on his family.
In the letter, Jack thanks his parents for their unwavering support during his toughest years living with eczema. His words give insight into the deep emotional impact that this condition can have—not only on the person affected but also on the people closest to them.
We are also thrilled to announce that Jack has decided to donate all his profits from his recent apparel collection partnership with five by flynn to Eczema Support Australia. This incredible act of generosity will help us continue our work supporting Australians living with eczema, as well as their families and carers.
Below is Jack’s letter to his parents, which he has also recorded in a video/audio version. We encourage you to listen to Jack read his heartfelt words.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I want to start by thanking you. I know how close you both were to separating because of the stress I put you in in my younger years with my eczema.
Also, I know you would both defend me by saying it’s not my fault and it’s fair. I do know the skin issue is definitely not my fault, but I do remember how I behaved when it was unnecessary.
At the time, I had zero care or understanding of what you’d both done for me whilst I screamed all night, crying, scratching and bleeding.
The treatments, the hissy fits, the constant stress you had with money because every bit went on me and my skin. The time and the patience I took away from both of you.
But the worst part of all the time and attention that you guys had to take away from Bonnie, who may have needed it most.
But I now understand how much strain I put on the both of you. I don’t know why, but it’s just so hard to thank you all or even talk about it because it was such a traumatic few years for all of us.
I truly feel guilty every time I’ve thought, the thought enters my brain. I mostly try to block it out because it’s such an uneasy feeling.
The both of you are the two best humans I know and have in my life.
We thank Jack not only for sharing such a personal part of his story but also for his generous pledge that will have a lasting impact on those living with eczema. If you haven’t already, check out his apparel collaboration with five by flynn, knowing that every purchase helps support our community.
Thank you, Jack, for your kind heart and for being a voice for so many.
